There are various activities you can participate in to develop a better understanding of your practice and to support others in their practice. These meetings include introductory Buddhism meetings, discussion and study meetings, divisional meetings, meetings dedicated to just chanting (“daimoku toso”), and meetings for specific interest groups.
The function of SGI meetings are to enable members to deepen their understanding of the profound principles of life as taught by Nichiren Daishonin.
The great Soka Gakkai tradition of the district discussion meeting is the place where the Buddha’s wish—that all people become equal to the Buddha without distinction between them—comes to life. Our district discussion meetings are the heart of the organization and key to the members growth.
Introductory Buddhism meetings are a great place for friends and guests to learn about the philosophy of Nichiren Daishonin. Introduction meetings are the perfect place for beginners and first-timers to meet other members, hear faith experiences, and ask any questions about the practice of SGI Nichiren Buddhism in a relaxed setting.
Studying Buddhism and embracing its empowering concepts help us develop our faith and establish a regular daily practice. Through study we strengthen our confidence and conviction and learn what it means to practice correctly. There are a variety of study meetings you can attend, including small, district study meetings, and larger, lecture-style study meetings on The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin. There are also divisional study meetings, such as Sophia (Women’s Division), Kings of Soka (Men’s Division), and Ikeda Wisdom Academy meetings (Youth Division), among other types of study meetings.
